ZORZI, Alvise: Venezia Scomparsa. Milan, Electa, 1984. 440pp, numerous illustrations in colour and black & white. 28 x 24.5cm. Black cloth, white spine-titles, very good copy in dustwrapper and slipcase. Originally published in two volumes (1971); this one-volume edition is a little more manoeuverable, though still a weighty tome. Everything in Venice you can no longer see, lost, pillaged or wilfully destroyed. One of the two or three really essential modern books on the city.
