Byron – Venice

This book is the first study to focus exclusively on Byron’s life in Italy for more than fifty years. Recounting hid travels through Europe and in Venice from 1816 through his departure from Ravenna in 1821, A. E. Amison aims to shed new light on the poet’s life in Venice and the impact the city had on his work, puncturing a few myths as she does so.

In a series of Venetian Interludes she also gives her readers glimpses of a Venetian society emerging from a lengthy period of war and change and unwillingly coming to terms with the new world-order of the early nineteenth century. The author has gone back to original sources in her research, and it's apparent in depth of the detail in this rich recount. A must for all admirers of Byron and for lovers of Venice.
